Contemporary of the photo opening this site, found in the wild around Aebano, Japan. Like the photo, the sort of lie from which a truth can emerge. Its origin was as a shogetsu cherry sapling. I cut it, peeled its bark, smoothed it with a piece of broken glass, caressed it with linseed oil; our ‘tent boy’ on the west slope of Mt Fuji added the cast iron foot (not visible) and the beer-can top.
What is visible is the dark strip of the vine that caused the single-helix twist of growth.
